A New Website! A New Way To Shop WE ARE COW!

Here at COW we have all been working hard on a brand new website for you and getting up to date with all of the things we know our customers like to see. We have researched how customers would rather shop online, what you want to see and how you want to see it. We then squeezed all of this into one brand new layout and design to make shopping at WWW.WEARECOW.COM a much more pleasurable experience.

We don't really want to give too much away but let's just say it's going to be the new way to shop Vintage. With so many trend led pieces in Cow we want to take Vintage and Reworked Clothing to the next level, helping our customers see the endless potential in buying one off pieces and creating your own style while keeping up with the latest trends.

Look out for seasonal trends, lookbooks, features, behind the scenes, meet the teams, and much more as well as all of the best one off Men's and Women's Vintage pieces you could ask for! We are so excited about the launch and don't want to give it all up in one blog but there's alot to look forward to, a lot of keeping up to date and constantly uploading and refreshing the whole thing to make sure we keep your eyes fully locked on us!

Here are a couple of sneaky peeks of the layouts to expect on our new website but we can't show it all!

FLASHBACK: Old School Super Babes

With all of the Spring/Summer '14 Fashion Weeks coming to a close in Paris we have a lot to go over and start to pull out the next season trends to make sure we are looking for the items, colours, styles and fabrics you want to be wearing next season.

For now though we are Flashing backwards to the 80's and 90's when the word Supermodel was a big deal and there was a lot of flashing. Where the same top Supermodels would have been in all of the biggest shows and designer campaigns!

We will never forget the classic icons like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Naomi Cambell, Helena Christensen, Linda Evangalista, Christy Turlington and Tyra Banks to name a few. Here are our favourite High Fashion images when supermodels were 'IT' and photographers loved to group them up and make them huddle together to get that timeless pic!

Oh Versace, Guess.. Chain, leather, denim, white tees and caps. Love!

MEET THE TEAM! Terri- Jayne Baker

Say Hi to one of our cutest and most hard working members from Cow Sheffield! Terri-Jayne is a trend setter and the heart and soul of the Sheffield store.
We asked Terri-Jayne to go through her job role, why she (obvs) loves it and find out what are her A/W13 must haves..

HI TERRI-JAYNE!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR COW AND WHAT IS YOUR ROLE?

My role is Store Manager in Sheffield and I have been there for 2 and 1/2 years! Which has gone crazy fast!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT BEING A STORE MANAGER?

I love working with such a creative team, every day is different, big deliveries are always exciting, the visual side of my job is what I enjoy the most. Creating trend areas and outfit builds to inspire customers when they come shopping in store!

HOW WOULD DESCRIBE YOUR OWN STYLE?

My style changes everyday and transcends through seasons but right now I like mixing boyish styles with wild vintage prints, usually basic tees with anything high waisted and crazy one-off knitwear pieces! I'll never stop wearing cute floral dress and I'm a lover of a great detailed collar on anything. Sequins and velvet are also a must!

WHY IS VINTAGE CLOTHING IMPORTANT IN STYLE NOWADAYS AND WHY DO YOU THINK IT'S BECOME SO POPULAR?

Vintage and secondhand clothing have always been a great way to create personal style and express an individual personality. Thrift shopping is a great way for everyone shopping on a budget, you can always find real cheap gems. I love it when someone asks me where I  got a certain piece from and I say "I found it in a charity shop for 99p!"

WHAT A/W '13 TRENDS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT?

Autumn is my all time favourite season for fashion! I'm not a huge trend follower , so I wear what I like and I usually look at street styles for inspiration. I like to see how individuals take on new trends! I'm a massive hoarder of clothes and accessories and I think you can never go wrong wearing any kind of vintage. It never goes out of style! I do seem to have stocked up on a lot of tartan over the years so those have been worn more these past few weeks.

WHAT 3 ITEMS DO YOU THINK WE ALL NEED FOR THE COLDER MONTHS APPROACHING?

Novelty fun knitwear, gingerbread lattes and mittens on a string!

CBGB - The Movie

There is a lot of excitement around for the new CBGB movie release this Autumn. You may have heard of that tiny little venue called CBGB's in New York City which opened in 1973 and gave a home to all of the newest bands around at that time. These bands were either unheard of or making waves in the music scene but ended up shaping a very important time in music. CBGB's became a place for punks, renegades, rockers and metal heads to go and see new bands, get drunk, make a mess, cause havoc, make friends, have fights, pick up girls and other general 'Rock N Roll' fun times.

Hilly Kristal (the founder/owner) outside CBGB Club New York 1973

Inside the one toilet that was shared by so many people who literally left their mark.
Love the No Smoking sign on the wall... Can imagine that stopped people!

Some of the first people to play there and create such havoc, building a name for themselves and the venue were The Ramones, Misfits, Television, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, The Cramps, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Voivoids and Talking Heads to name a few. Bands that we love and who inspired the bands we love now because they were the original bad attitude and controversial bands that are so hard to recreate nowadays.

 BLONDIE

TALKING HEADS

RAMONES

The venue became the place to go and we kind of wish we were born earlier and lived in New York to see it all happening. Even to this day there has probably been no cooler place with such an iconic name and reputation for such an amount of time.

So naturally if this is the kind of stuff that makes you want to drink straight Jack Daniels, rip some clothes off, start a band, then you probably want to keep your eye out for the release date of this movie! Here is a sneaky trailer to get you in the mood.

PLAY LOUD: FKA Twigs

She's caught our eye in the press with her super 90's hair do, decorative earrings and big red lips but after listening to more from FKA Twigs we decided she's not just a pretty face and works that look in with her angelic voice softly drizzled over a mix of electronic and R&B.

The 25 year old originally from Gloucestershire is residing in London but says "she likes to keep herself to herself". This might be how she can pull off an almost sinister sounding song backed up by noises of ticking clocks with bashing cymbals but also make it sound quite pop.
The up-coming star was recently shot for the cover of the Youthful Issue of i-D Magazine and she looks very comfortable as she is not even styled too heavily but just oozes cool!

We will definitely be keeping our eyes and ears out for what she's up to and await an album release! For now though we'll just sit back and chill out to a few of our favourites so far.

BIG DEAL X WE ARE COW

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Alice and Kacey from the group
BIG DEAL at this years Beacons Festival.
You may have previously seen our posts and tweets about their album 'June Gloom
we adore these dreamy rock vibes and beautiful male-female harmonies.

I snapped at the chance of grabbing a few shots and fired a few questions at the duo.
Here is what they had to say.
Enjoy.

All photos by our photographer Richard Manning.

HOW WAS THE REST OF YOUR BEACONS FESTIVAL? DID YOU MANAGE TO CATCH MANY BANDS WHILST YOU WHERE THERE.
KC: Unfortunately we had to drive back that afternoon so we didn't get to see a whole lot, but we managed to see Thumpers and get in a wrestling match with Drenge.
BIG DEAL - DREAM MACHINES
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVAL /GIG MOMENT?

ALICE: We played a festival in Cornwall and we all slept in the back of our van together. It was an awesome drunken slumber party. We were worried it was going to be horrible but it was really fun.

WHO WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO TOUR WITH?
KC: Arcade Fire. It would be scary to know they are coming on after you, but amazing to see them every night.
ALICE : MGMT. They are amazing, and we'd probably have a lot of fun with them. I'm also in love with Andrew VanWynGarden so that'd be an extra perk.

 HOW DID YOU MEET PAWS

ALICE: I can't exactly remember, but it was something to do with swapping one of our bands t-shirts for one of theirs. They stayed in my house for a while when they were in London and we ate eggs and soldiers every morning but because they're scottish they would smash up the shells with their spoons after so the 'little witches can't use them as boats to come and get you.' Very strange scottish superstitions  Anyway we've been friends ever since. They've also made one of our favourite records of the last two years.

BEST PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU BOTH OWN?

KC: My zelda shirt. It's been washed so many times no one can tell what it is. But i know.

ALICE: A pair of grey jeans that i love so much but are nearly too broken to wear, the waist band is held together with a piece of ribbon that my mum sewed in.

BEST BUY FROM A VINTAGE STORE?

ALICE: When we were in Joshua Tree we went to all the thrift stores, where if you search you can find the most amazing vintage clothes all for under $5. I bought three pairs of levi's jeans for $8. Kc found an amazing shirt with the sun and moon on that he wore for the ' in your car' video because we were trying to go for a fear and loathing in Las Vegas kind of look and we thought it looked like something Johnny Depps character would wear.

BIG DEAL - IN YOUR CAR

TOP 3 DESERT ISLAND DISCS?

KC: Beatles - White Album / Nirvana - Nevermind / Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

YOUR BEST RECORDS OF 2013 SO FAR?
KC + ALICE: Mac de Marco 2 / Yeah Yeah Yeah's Mosquito / Drenge, Drenge,

BEST CITY YOU HAVE BEEN TO?
ALICE: We played in this city an hour outside of Venice called Sesto al Reghena and the gig was in a huge castle courtyard called Piazza Castello. There were old nuns all dressed in white habits cycling around as we sound checked and as it got dark tables and chairs were set up for everyone with candles everywhere. It was insane.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO FULL BAND?
KC: It's just more fun. Even solo artists perform with a band, otherwise its just too hard to engage an audience with such quiet music.

HOW DID YOU MEET MEL AND HUW?
ALICE: The last band they were in were on the same label as us, Mute Records. Mute did a small european showcase thing where they put three of their bands on a tour bus together and organised shows for them in each city they woke up in and when there's 16 of you sharing a living space you get pretty close pretty quickly.
